Joli Jewelry was started by Jody Lyons in 1984. Inspired by her love of the stylized periods of the 1920's-1960's and her childhood fascination with her mother's jewelry box, she began designing jewelry for herself while still an undergraduate in college. She was soon "discovered" by local shop owners in the West Village of Manhattan and began creating a brooch and earring line that she now sells in boutiques, specialty stores and museum shops around the US, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Europe.
Whenever possible, the mix of components include real vintage parts, different cultural motifs in hopes of making fabulous new creations with a nod to original vintage styles. Our mission is to share the love and interest in original, old materials and the importance of reusing what already exists: ie., vintage glass, original plastics like celluloid and Bakelite, old metal findings, French enamels and mother of pearl pieces, among others. Found items such as buttons, buckles, trimmings, perfume bottle top crystals, purse openers, fans and furniture handles are among the varied parts used. New semi-precious, glass and metal components are often incorporated as well.
Jody still designs everything in the line. The small production runs are then handmade by a group of wonderful women in our Park Slope studio in Brooklyn, New York. Thank you for your interest in Joli Jewelry and, as always, we hope you enjoy wearing our jewelry and displaying our decorative items. May they inspire you to connect with others and have fun with fashion and color!
